Story Behind the Song
I wanted to write a song that wasn't your typical Stevie Ray knock off of a knock off of a knock off. I wanted this entire CD to be about walking that line between Blues and pushing the envelope to see how far it would go without becoming Hard Rock with Blues licks. Fresh Blues for a new day! I think we did it with this tune. I slipped in some Maj7ths and some extented Minor 9ths to make it hip.
I was thinking alot about the song "My Imagination" from Gladys Knight and the Pips. I also combined that with the cool title which was a Hendrix song back in his days in Greenwich Village. His version of "Mister Bad Luck" later became "Look Over Yonder". So I never copied the song. I just dug the title. And at the time I wrote it, I didn't know that it later became "Look Over Yonder". So no stealing on my part, just borrowing a cool title that Jimi never used.
The song was completely worked out in my mind and on stage. The band performed it many times with varying arrangements. When it came time to track it, we realized that it needed a bridge to break it up a bit.
I came up with it on the spot and dreamed up that weird minor chord section to give it a dark dreamy quality. The solos were a work in progress until I found something we all liked. All I had when it was time to record was the into. The rest was trial and error. Lots of error! It was my 60's Reissue Strat with Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues pickups, my Vox Wah, and my Peavey 5150. We will later re-mix this song to make it sound even better, but as of now I'm very proud of it.
