Reznoresque anthem with a driving beat and deliciously nasty guitars explores the memory mechanics of a disturbed mind. Interwoven textures and dramatic transitions make this tune a must-have for your late-night collection. |

Story Behind the Song
I don't want to spoil this one by giving away the store on what it's about; the description probably says too much already. Suffice it to say that I was in a very unusual frame of mind when I wrote the song -- uncharacteristic for me, except perhaps in an unconscious, universally human kind of way...
The song was written around a percussion-and-bass loop that I had programmed several years ago and subsequently forgotten. Probably like many musicians who write at a workstation, I have dozens of these loops -- riffs or beats that strike me in the middle of the night, that sort of thing -- and I happened to be going through the floppies on which I store them when I came across this one again.
Being in the mood to write a song, but not having a lot of time (because of a lameass day job at a lameass Kapuskasing newspaper where the idiot publisher wanted to get 65 hours a week in work but only pay for 35), I quickly strung the loop out, real-timed the additional percussion and synth licks, and then laid on the guitar...all in about 4 or 5 hours.
All the guitar parts are first-take, although the "chucka" rhythms (when the guitar kicks in) have been seriously tampered with for quantization and effect. The rest of it, however -- bridge lead, rhythm and final lead -- are each one chunk of wave with only volume adjustments -- in other words seat-of-the-pants work of which I'm pretty proud.
The song has never been played live. Since the leads were 100% improvised, I'm not looking forward to having to play it...
Lyrics
I Don't Remember
I had the time to want you
I had the time to try
I had the time to follow you
and catch you in a lie
And now I see a shadow
I never saw before
it draws itself around me
I walk you to your door
I don't remember
It's satin on the inside
it brings me to my knees
a succubus, her place astride me
a master I must please
I don't remember
And now my place is certain
the promise I have made
I wrap you in the curtain
the image, it will fade
And, oh, the weight I carry
is heavy for my years
but I've been told I bear it well
must be the change in my career
I don't remember
