Story Behind the Song
Percy Wenrich was one of the greatest craftsmen of Tin Pan Alley. Born in Joplin, Missouri, he sought out the great early ragtime pianists playing in his area, including Scott Joplin. After having some success with writing instrumental rags, he began writing songs which soon achieved international fame. Many of his successful songs, like those in this medley, are ragtime. Some of the best are played here. There is scarcely a person who has grown up without hearing these songs from the pen of this incredible composer.
