Weber's fiery and demonic overture makes an excellent showpiece for the orchestra. Spot the deliberate mistake in the horn quartet! (This kind of hiccup was almost inevitable in horn-playing before B-flat extension tubing was invented.) |

Story Behind the Song
Max, a young forester, is doubly anxious to succeed in a forthcoming shooting contest, because the hand of his sweetheart Agathe is pormised to the victor. A sinister woodman, Kilian, offers him the use of magic bullets which cannot miss their mark; all Mx has to do is go with Kilian to the sinister Wolf's Glen at dead of night, where Somebody will meet them. Max does not realise that there is a price to pay and that the seventh and last bullet will find its own target . . .
