Story Behind the Song
As for "Like a Child With You," Ray wrote a complete version of the
song, played it for the guys, and they hated it. Ron said it sounded
like a 50's tune and started singing it like a Jan and Dean song. Ray
packed it in, but the words wouldn't let him go. He typed up the lyrics,
handed Rich and Ron a copy, and said, "Forget what you heard the last
time and make a song out of these words." Rich started playing, Ron
sang, and Ray's words became a brand new song. Rich and Ron put Ray up
to playing the bombastic two octave bass slide in the introduction. Once
they played the song in concert and later that night a woman in the
audience suffered a miscarriage. She sent word to the guys and let them
know that the song kept turning over in her mind, and that it helped her
through that very difficult trial.

LIKE A CHILD WITH YOU*

I have seen the wicked prosper
And the good man die too young
And all those helpless babies
Murdered one by one
Still I trust in Your goodness
Your sovereign will divine
I cannot hope to fathom
The mysteries of Your mind
I have made myself like a child with You
Resting my head
Trusting instead of asking questions
Without answers
And doubting Your great love for me
When I consider Your grace
And Your mercies always new
The sweetness of Your presence
And the wonders that You do
It has barely crossed my mind
The blessings you will pour
On Your holy chosen children
To savor forevermore
I have made myself like a child with You
Resting my head
Trusting instead of asking questions
Without answers
And doubting Your great love for me
