Story Behind the Song
Verse groove and vocal was original seed on four track at Shantytown.
Envisioned as an alternative Stevie Wonder hook.
Lyrics groove out of original unconscious seed of
"What have you done that I can't imagine"--immediately thought of
ways in which people justify their relationships with
people who aren't their ideal. Bridge an analogy to/variation of
the morality-as-a-process/morality-for-results-spectrum, fairy tales
being one strong moral messenger. Title refers to the way love can lower itself to demeaning levels for the sake of being with someone. Perhaps it ceases to be love at that point, in which cases, the titles is a misnomer.
Lyrics
What have you done that I can't imagine
Murder as long as I'm not in danger
Don't be a part of my life
Be a part of me
Don't be a part of my life
Have you been out counting your new victims
Looking for ladders up to their windows
Don't be a part of my life
Be a part of me
Don't be a part of my life
Chorus1
The madness that surrounds you makes a primitive sound
Compared to the way that you and I've torn up this town
Second-hand smoke ain't good enough for everyone
Not to beg, not to borrow, or feel
Stop all wondering if this place is so real, so real
Habits are hard to break I know well
Dropping like blah blah blah [jibberish, never really said anything]
You have to want to change in the first place
So hard to tell, so hard to tell
Chorus2
You're gonna stop their crying
It's just another way of dying
And you've been picking on the mean ones so it all works out
I'll be listening for sirens
One hour until you get in
Hold me just a little longer
Love Bows Down
I've read those fables with the goose and the egg
But still can't figure out the price they paid
Escaped the butcher trailing coins on the way
Who's making up these stories anyway
Didn't anybody tell you that the world ain't free
That you got to put some back before you undress me
And the world is full of crazy people just like me,
Like me, letting go
Love Bows Down
Chorus
