This is a song of starlight and desert moons, and wishing somehow I could turn back the clock. This is a ballad that Diana Ross wanted to do... but I ran away from Motown!(g) (Run run run run runaway...)

    Story Behind the Song
    If Time Were to Bend

I remember the nights with you
The silken delight of your skin
And how close we really came
To sharing our lives and even our names
    And maybe it's my imagination
I've told myself things I want so bad to see
But I would make you mine this time
    If Time were to bend
    And come 'round again

'Cos I remember the desert moon
    And starlight filling your hair
    Nighttime doesn't strike me now
As being as lovely as when you were there

    And maybe it's my imagination
I've told myself things I want so bad to see
But I would make you mine this time
If Time were to bendAnd come 'round again

    Lyrics
This song pretty much tells its own story. I wrote this one while sittig on the edge of my bed at about 3 a.m. one morning. A friend had given me some mescaline and I wrote three songs that night! The year was 1976. I was 25, and this was originally an acoustic piece... My co-producer Rand, however, suggested that I give it a try on electric for a change, and so I did. That's my '65 Fender Jag with a special bridge I milled outta 303 stainless... tough track to cut. Enjoy it!
