Story Behind the Song
We remember this old cautionary poem from many years ago and felt it needed a new life as a song.
Lyrics
Will you walk into my parlor? said
the spider to the fly
Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever
you did spy
The way into the parlor is up a
winding stair
And I have many things to show you
when youre there
Oh no, no, no, no, no, said the little
fly
Id rather stay right here and let the
chance go by
Oh no, no, no, no, no, you might put
me in a spin
If I go upstairs, I might never come
down again
Im sure you must be weary from
soaring up so high
Come rest upon my pillow said the
spider to the fly
I will close the curtains, the sheets
are fine and thin
Why dont you sleep awhile and I
will tuck you in
Oh no, no, no, no, no, said the little
fly
Id think Ill fly away and let this
chance go by
Oh no, no, no, no, no, you might put
me in a spin
And if I fall asleep, I might never
wake up again
The spider turned around and went
into his den
He knew the silly fly would soon be
back again
He wove a silky web in a corner way
up high
And set his table ready to dine upon
the fly
He went to his door and he began to
sing
Please come back, pretty fly, with
your silver wing
Your robes are green and purple,
theres a crest upon your head
Your eyes are like diamonds, but
mine are dull as lead
It wasnt very long before our silly
little fly
Heard the spiders song and came
slowly flitting by
She was thinking of her eyes
And the crest upon her head
She didt see who watched her with
his eyes as dull as lead
Oh yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, said the
spider to the fly
Ive waited for this moment - I wont
let this chance go by
He dragged her up the stairs into his
dismal den
She stayed inside his parlor and she
never came back again-
No, she never came back again.
And she did the spin.
She did the spin, (3X)
And she never came back again. (3x
low, 3x high)
