Story Behind the Song
The song was written out of a general restlessness that I was feeling at the time and what I believe most people feel as well. People are always searching for something external that will "fill them up" and there is no such thing. But the search continues anyway.
Lyrics
I walk the streets looking for something. For anything else but me. My shoes on the pavement are talking. They say,"we're just beginning, you'll see." I can feel it in my stomach, this unease and restlessness. Anticipation of meaningful release...when your heart feels like a clenched fist.
I crave, I crave the touch of something new. When the old familiar just won't do tonight. I crave, I crave a different point of view. I crave, I crave it too.
Night air feels cold on your face. You breathe in and close your eyes. Look to strangers for a glimmer of hope and the moon's just beginning to rise. You can feel it in your stomach, this unease and pensiveness. Anticipation of sublime deliverance. Your phantoms you must acquiesce.
You crave, you crave the touch of something new. When the old familiar just won't do tonight. you crave, you crave a different point of view. You crave, you crave it too.
You hit the bars, but that's so tired. The same old scene as a week ago. Men all pretend they're not married and all the women pretend they don't know.
Inside the club the music's pounding. Like the heart inside my chest. Faces sweat from the manic dancing, a hedonistic show for all the rest. And the suburb boys stand by the wall, clutching beer bottles in their hands. Wait for the buzz to drop the pretense, open up wide and join the dance.
They crave, they crave the touch of something new. When the old familiar just won't do tonight. They crave and you crave a different point of view. I crave, I crave it too.
