Story Behind the Song
Neil Gaiman wrote an enchanting novel called Neverwhere, where a girl who can open the doors that inhabit everything and an above-worlder named Richard must save London (above and below), indeed, the world, from -- you guessed it -- Something Bad. In this book, angels aren't always good, killers aren't always bad, and nothing is as it appears; for London below lives between the cracks of London above -- a world within a world, where the populace of each rarely encounter one another.
I highly recommend the book -- it's quite a good read.
This song is devoted to the magicians of the world, that being everyone who doesn't accept things as they "are" and explores what's really there (or what _could_ be there).
