Story Behind the Song
Ottawa, Spring 1992.
My friend Jane had been through this horrible experience, possibly the worst indignity that can happen to a woman. It haunted her, and I suggested she try to exorcise her feelings by writing them down. Her words proved a good starting point for the lyric, and I used many of her phrases in the finished song. The music was harder to pinpoint, but after several attempts a simple, sinuous reggae rhythm worked really well.
