Story Behind the Song
This song began as my first experiment with multitrack harmonies. Only the first first existed, and I liked it so much, I stayed up at a local greasy spoon and wrote the rest. The Shake A Hamster band (see www.kvsc.org -in which I play trombone) performed it beautifully. Inspired by the Tom Robbins novel, "Skinny Legs and All."
Lyrics
I went to the mountain with money and time.
I sat by the river and drank me some wine.
I put out my pan and I sifted for gold
with a cheer on my face as the summer grew old.
I stayed on that mountain till the river ran dry.
My pockets were empty and a tear in my eye.
The wind started howlin, the snifter grew cold.
Thats when I met the whore of babylon and gave her my soul.
She had eyes of blue, lips of red,
hair of gold, and a big old brass bed.
I should have run while I could but I stayed, what the hell.
She said I am the Whore of Babylon, but you can call me Jezebel.
I came off that mountiain, I cursed and I swore.
I asked her to spare me, but I begged her for more.
My eyes are as empty as the mountain is old,
cause when I met the Whore of Babylon, salvation was sold.
She had eyes of blue, lips of red,
hair of gold, and a big old brass bed.
I should have run while I could but I stayed, what the hell.
She said I am the Whore of Babylon, but you can call me Jezebel.
