	Story Behind the Song This song, about a young woman who disguises herself as a man to fight for her native land, is our band's tribute to the famous Macedonian singer Vaska Ilieva, who recorded a version of it years ago. Jody Levinson sings the lead vocal; Kathy Sandstrom adds a vocal harmony of her invention. Lyrics Sung in Macedonian. Here's an approximate translation: Word came from the town of Krushevo that those with manly sons should send them as soldiers to the famous town of Smilevo. Stojan had no sons, he had only Todorka, Todorka, her mother's only child, Todorka, her father's only child. Todorka said to her father: Buy me a gun and a holster and a sword on my belt. I will go be a soldier, father, in famous Smilevo. Oh, how handsome Todorka was, armed with a gun on her shoulder and a sword on her belt. She was a soldier for three years. No one recognized Todorka, that Todorka was a girl.
