Here's a wistful musical landscape where time, melody and chord color surrender to a simple truth . There is a particular kind of concentration, of "psychic quiet" required to approach this piece in the middle of a performance. On occasion, I've had to stop and begin the piece again in order to "gather" all of myself in the moment. |

Story Behind the Song
What interests me about this piece is the space between one note or chord interval and the next in all the "out-of-time" passages...particularly the first section which defines the terrain for the rest of the composition. Each performance is unique because of the profound difference in mood that results from lingering or accelerating various moments in these sections. We took several passes at recording this piece over a week's time. I couldn't do more than two "takes" at a time and then I'd have to leave the music for another day. Every "take" of this composition then, was completely different from the others. We chose the one which we all felt had the most compelling emotional trajectory.
