    Story Behind the Song
After completing a graduate degree in Animal Nutrition, I spent time working in feedyards in the Midwest. I came to the conclusion that God made the Rockies to keep us "Westies" on our own side.

    Lyrics
Pamela Van Schaack - GONNA LEAVE

    Cattle are hungry
    And I need a buck
    At four o'clock every morning
I mount that old feed truck
    Steers are a bawling
As we meet at the bunk
    Cowboys are shipping cattle
    In an early morning funk

    My Seat's in a pucker
Through the muddy corner of dread
If I slid in that lagoon
I'd wish that I were dead
But I met a great friend now
    A good old oakie boy
    He's riding pens here
Oh howdy, such a western joy

    I'm gonna leave
    This one horse town
    Where there's not a trace
    Of a single man around
    The land is flat
    Corn is in style
    The only hill round here
    It's a manure pile

The heroic town they call Ulysses
    In the county of Grant
I live in good old Useless
    Is the younger people's chant
    Now you have to admit
Old Useless smells pretty crass with all the
    Feedlot cattle and the natural

    If you lit a match
The town would go up in flames
And no one in the real world
    Would know their names
    But some people like
    This small town doe-se-doe
    I prefer the mountains
Yah that's where I'm planning to go

    I'm gonna leave
    This one horse town
    Where there's not a trace
    Of a single man around
    Land is flat
    Corn is in style
    The only hill round here
    It's a manure pile

    I'm gonna leave
    This one horse town
Where the guys cruise main street
They're going nowhere, just up and down
    In their souped up pickups
    And old hot rod cars
    Cruising past thirteen churches
    And two members only bars

    I'm gonna leave
