Story Behind the Song
Have you ever been on a road trip with someone you didn't know so well, and then twenty miles into the journey you wished you didn't have to know them at all? Well, then, this is for you.
Next time, no matter WHO it is, I'M pickin' the tapes (or CDs, as it would be now).
(Hmmm, think my sweetie might have something to say about THAT. ;)

So I'm headin' out the coast anyway, and she seemed nice enough, so I said, "Sure; we'll leave at eight." She showed up two hours late and brought along all of her tapes so that she could play DJ all the way to San Jose...
she's got hear one song
again and again, it never seemed so long
and I'm already gone
(Spoken:)
So we heard one song for about eighty miles. She wasn't my dream girl or anything, but she did promise certain favors... like, she'd let me read her authentic collection of "Flash" comic books; you know, the guy on DC!
she wants to die, wants me to care
and still makes me feel like I'm not there
and I'm already gone
she says, "Bye-bye,
wanna thank you for the ride,
but if you wanna stay
we can waste another day like today;
you need a getaway!"
and I'm already gone
(Spoken:)
I'm not an asshole. I just like having a little space to myself, y'know? So if you call me on the phone, leave a message. I'm not around; I just headed out.
and I'm already gone
