	Story Behind the Song Alvarez moved to Los Angeles from Austin Texas in 1987. One day shortly after arriving in L.A., Alvarez was leaving his apartment when he was told by an LAPD loudspeaker: "Go back into your apartment now!" (a bust was taking place on the street). Alvarez walked back into his apartment and wrote the sappy "On The Beach" - a tongue in cheek song about how great being on the beach is (the song actually a reference to the book "On the Beach" , a story about the end of the world via atomic obliteration). Lyrics Let's go fishing, let's go surfing, let's go anything, on the beach. And go looking through the telescopes around the light tower. And there, there is nothing to fear. There never was but in this place we need to listen to what's fun. Now we're tired, the night is here. We won't eat. You know we won't sleep. We're gonna wait for the sun. And then we'll go fishing. Then go surfing. And fishing again. Then maybe we'll sleep-on the beach.
