Story Behind the Song
Actually, when my brother and I were working in North Carolina and driving home every weekend to West Virginia, we heard all kinds of country music, about trucks, tractors, carpenters, etc... Well, Jim dared me to write a song about Dozers, and here it is.
Lyrics
I got a 10 gallon hard hat
on my head
I got callouses on my hands
I was born with diesel in my blood
I'm just a workin man.
No fancy sports car
do I drive
Just a pick-up truck for me.
I run a wild, buckin, gradin machine
I'm a Caterpillar Cowboy.
(Chorus)
I was born to be
A Caterpillar Cowboy
Just shoven dirt
and rippin rock all day
Gonna keep on workin
right up till dark thirty
Slick er up
Roll er down
and be on my way.
Our Pappy said don't do it
to both my brother and me
But after we'd seen that black smoke roll
we knew it would just have to be.
Now we don't wear no silver spurs
Can't tie us to an office job!
Don't think that we're a dyin breed
We're Caterpillar Cowboys!
(Chorus)
Pappy ran a D-9 dozer
back in 1966
My big brother followed right behind
just hittin those diesel licks
But it tool me just a while
to realize, you see
I was born to run
Mr. Holts machine
I'm a Caterpillar Cowboy!
(Chorus)
Lets go to work fellas!
