Story Behind the Song
The song was written just before going into the studio to record the album "Tongue". We originally had all the songs that we needed and at rehearsals this came about in a couple hours. The only part that took a little more time were the lyrics. The melody was there but once the idea for the words came about they were worked on right up to arrival at the studio. The lyrics take you on a whistle stop journey around the world emphasising what instantly comes to mind when you think of a particular city and was inspired by Graham's increasing number of working trips abroad.
Lyrics
MILLION THINGS
(Roberts)
Up the Mississippi, down in New Orleans
Got a Detroit motor city, LA dream
Theres a London pride, and a Dublin smile for me
Hong Kong whats wrong Cairo speaks
Of a fine romance full of Paris sleaze
Yeah you can in Amsterdam, Berlins a breeze
CHORUS
Can you feel it rising, can you believe
Theres a language we all understand
Got a million things that I want to see
Big foot Montreal, whats in store
Giving Seattle prittle prattle Moscow and more
Theres a New York big apple, Bombay curries galore
Singapore, Tokyo video news
Shes a Cape Town surfer playing internet blues
And in Bangkok aim to shock, those Venice tunes
CHORUS
Got a million things that Ive got to be
Got a million things that I shouldnt do
Ive got one little word to say to you
Got a million things that Ive want to see
Got a million things that Ive got to be
Got a million things that I shouldnt do
Ive got one little word to say to you
Got a million things that Ive want to do to you
Got a million things, got a million things
Got a million things, got a million
