Story Behind the Song
This song was written the morning after Cap'n and Skeebo got rolled by a couple of hookers. Cap'n had gone so far as to propose to her the night before. Skeebo said, "...I ain't never had my heart broke like that, never. She smelled so fresh."
Lyrics
Talk is cheap, words are free
You'd say anything, to satisfy me.
Leading me on, love on a string.
I believed in you, it didn't mean a thing.
You gave me your word, I took it so deep.
You never learned, it's something you keep.
Broken promises, empty words,
Now I know what they're worth.
What can you say that hasn't been said?
Another fool easily led.
It's your way and it's all in fun.
You'll never know just what you've done.
You gave me your word, I took it so deep.
You never learned, it's something you keep.
Broken promises, empty words,
Now I know what they're worth.
You'll never know just what it means to love.
When will you see you had it all in me?
Broken promises...
