This is a straight up, natural rock and roll song. Maybe you can hear our classic rock influences a bit within Tennessee. Fun for all ages.
    CD: Friends of Schmoe
Credits: Lyrics and music by Brett Chamberlain

    Story Behind the Song
This was a time when we were just pumping out songs during rehearsals and jam sessions. We were so tight at the time, that many riffs and jams became songs. Tennessee is one of them. As with all the songs from "Friends of Schmoe", this was written in Texas around the end of '98/beginning of '99.

As it says in the chorus..."I'll send you a card from Tennessee", the song is about leaving a significant other to see if the pastures truly are greener on the other side. Basically...the lyrics describe an extended version of an excuse to the question "Why are you leaving me?"

    Lyrics
    Oh I get that feeling
The feeling that I've been here before
    Oh but make no mistake
It's not that I don't want you anymore

    (Bridge)
    Listen to me,
    I've got something to say
    It's really not your fault
    Why I'm going away

    See I met this girl
    Just walking down the street
    One thing led to another
    Now we're moving to Tennessee

    Well I took some time
Some time to think this through
    And I realize
That I don't want to spend one more minute with you

    (Bridge)

    (Breakdown)
    Maybe I'm blind
    Blind to reality
    I leave you behind
With nothing but a picture of me

    Will I change my mind
Will I come back to misery
    There's one way to find
I'll send you a card from Tennessee

    I'm getting out
    Getting in my Cadillac
    I'm heading out
With no monkeys on my back

    Will I change my mind
Will I come back to misery
Well there's one way to find
I'll send you a card from Tennessee
