1.
Sitting on a patio in the month of June
Sipping coffee with my sweetie,
Waiting for the moon to rise,
When faster than a lightning bolt,
They cut the evening air,
Two tiny little hummingbirds
Go whizzing past my chair.
2.
Theyre chasing round the two of us,
Cutting through our words,
Faster than the speed of sound
Come those feathered whirly birds.
Dartin and a-divin -- theyre getting pretty close,
When the darndest thing Ive ever seen,
The little one, all red and green,
Flew up my sweeties nose.
CHORUS:
Youve got a hummingbird
Stuck up your nose.
First time Ive ever seen
One of those up so close.
By now he should have realized
Theres nothing there to eat,
But all I see are feathers and his tiny little feet.
3.
Its safe to say youre startled:
Your eyes begin to tear.
I am laughing right out loud,
While both of you are gripped in fear.
Then he comes a-spitting
While flying in reverse. If hummingbirds were bigger things,
It could have been much worse.
CHORUS.
4.
He flies up to the cherry tree
Wondering what took place.
I think you have a similar look
In your eyes and on your face.
You pull out your handkerchief
To clear your nose of him.
He is doing likewise
With his beak upon a limb.
CHORUS.
5.
On summer nights the hummingbirds
Still fly around our place.
While were having coffee
And watching as the daylight fades.
And I have to say I love those times,
Because we feel so close,
Cozy as the hummingbird
When he was up your nose.
CHORUS.
