Story Behind the Song
When we were on a 99-city tour of the USA a few tours ago (after many years in Europe) we were surprised to see how many Walmarts, K-marts, Toys-R-Us, etc etc etc littered the landscape. So, "Big Gulp" in hand, we wrote this satire.
Lyrics
Greed: what you get what you get is a mean green ride
on a pink mink carpet with a genie beside
Greed: you fly so high over slums that you own
as the genie checks the market on your cellular phone
Greed: now you're in a silk suit in a Mickey Mouse tie
on the 99th floor, there's a tear in your eye
Greed: there's a tear in your eye cause the Deutschmark
dropped and the bonds beat you up like an L.A. cop
Building things we don't need/Selling things we don't need
It's greed, greed, greed - we're in the money
Greed: the middle-class man is a thing of the past
try to own a small business: it's a laugh
They'll shut you down, it isn't fair, it isn't fair
Greed: the money gets funneled to the rich through the
Walmart, Kmart, Toys-r-us, Coca Cola, Walt Disney
Warner Brothers, Panasonic, Pepsi Cola, Burger King,
bla, bla, bla, Taco Bell
McD-- McDon--- McD-d-d
I can't say it, it's too profane
Got a corporate work plan tailor-made for you
It's called Indentured Servitude - slavery
Building things we don't need/Selling things we don't need
It's greed, greed, greed - we're in the money
Greed: what you get what you get is a mean green ride
on a pink mink carpet with a genie beside
Greed: it's a time of confusion like the French Revolution
will it bend, will it break?
"Let them eat cake!"
Greed, greed, greed, greed...
