A story about the bad ends that came toeveryone who ever lived near Foster's Branch.
    Credits: by Kit Malone

    Story Behind the Song
Every weekend I drive down 69 to Indianapolis
to play with the rest of the band and to
live it up with my friends. I always pass a
sign for a little town called "Foster's
Branch." Over the years, I have created a
little story in my mind about all the people
that have lived in Foster's Branch, which is
a town under a curse. This is their story.

    Lyrics
She moved in on Foster's Branch
Just a mile or so down the road
When we walked by her face
    We could catch her face
But that wasn't what she sold

She moved in on Foster's Branch
And her mama cried in shame,
    "They likely bury me
    In a clapboard box
If you don't change your name

She sat up shop in an old gray barn
With a needle and a Sunday dress
    She didn't talk too much
    But she paid the rent
And she always looked her best

    Get up get out
    Get up get out
    You better get out quickly
    Or you might get evicted
And you can't sleep safe on the ground

He built a house down on Foster's Branch
Got a wife and an acre and a half
Climbed way up top of Jackson's Knob
With a shotgun and a camo hat

He built a house on Foster's Branch
Bought a shovel and a bowie knife
I bet you never saw him coming down that Knob
And I bet you never saw his wife

    Get up get out
    Get up get out
    You better get out quickly
    Or you might get evicted
And you can't sleep safe on the ground

Drifting in a rowboat on Foster's Branch
Checking out a row of trot-line
    Got a camp set up
    'Bought an hour downstream
And I'm running out of time

I'll never come back to Foster's Branch
'Cause that dog ain't nowhere to be found
    The fish don't bite
    The sun don't shine
And you can't sleep safe on the ground
