Story Behind the Song
The song was originally written for solo piano and voice but was re-arranged utilising the full band sound.
The lyrics talk of the struggle against impending unemployment and the defiance shown by one of the workers. He is appealing to the world to help him.
The lyrics were inspired by the large scale redundancies that hit the South Wales valleys when all bar one coal mine was closed down by the British Government in the 1980's leaving whole towns full of unemployed and possibly unemployable men.
Lyrics
EYES OF THE WORLD
(Roberts)
This time, gonna start a new crusade
Next time, build a bigger barricade
Though years of pain are on my face
I stand warrior without a blade
CHORUS
Every boy, every girl, stand accused
In the eyes of the world
Every child, every man, whats the use
Im just trying to get through
Head high, blinded by a bitter cause
Unite, knocking on the wrong door
CHORUS
