Story Behind the Song
Kathleen Antonia wrote the words and music to "Don't Wait" as a tribute to her friend, Tony Sanders, who died of AIDS June 29, 1995. Tony told Antonia that she ought to pursue an entertainment career after Antonia broke out into song at the keys of a grand piano during what would be Tony's last Christmas party. Five years later, she appeared as the headlining vocalist at San Francisco's King Street Garage, performing "Don't Wait" during Labor Day weekend, 1999. When negotiations with a record label fell through, Antonia thought she would need to pursue new production before she could release what she considers a "Don't Wait" rough mix. Instead, reminded of the very words Tony's life inspired, Antonia decided to wait no longer to release the single and introduce the world to the song and her Love. Antonia hopes "Don't Wait" will likewise inspire you to pursue your dreams.
Lyrics
In a flurry, Life will pass.
You never hurry. You pace yourself.
You say, "Next time it'll come to me.
Next time, I'll do it right. You'll see.
Next time. It'll have to be next time."
Baby, don't wait for your Life to end.
Baby, don't wait. It won't begin again.
Baby, don't wait for days that just won't come.
Baby, don't wait. This moment's the only one.
"In the morning" your dreams begin.
Come the dawning they fade again.
You say, "Next time, it'll come to me.
Next time, I'll do it right ... you'll see.
Next time. It'll have to be next time."
Baby, don't wait for paths to simply change.
Baby, don't wait for Life to rearrange.
Don't you wait for Fate to see you through.
Baby, don't wait. All you need is a part of you.
The days I've lost, I'll never find.
Better that I just free my mind to the chance that this is all I need to Be.
Right now is the only time for me ... for you.
Baby, don't wait for your Life to end.
Baby, don't wait. It won't begin again.
Don't you wait for Fate to see you through.
Baby, don't wait. All you need is a part of you.
