Story Behind the Song
"Wrath" started with a guitar riff that sounded to me like a giant flamethrower scorching the earth. The lyrics grew from that.
Lyrics
Mary came home,
To a broken sky,
She looked up,
And she began to cry,
She said -- who tore the sky apart?
Broke heaven's crown?
Who made the clouds explode?
Who brought the sun down?
Who scattered stars,
to the galaxy wide?
Who rolled the thunder?
And raised the tide?
She'd never seen,
Proof of the lie,
Never before,
Looked behind the sky,
The father above,
She'd been told about,
Had pulled the plug,
On a world of doubt,
She fell down and prayed,
Just to ask him why,
He had boiled the sea,
And split the sky,
He said --
"You tore the truth,
Stepped away from me,
With organized religion,
You poisoned the stream,
You profit from prophets,
Lie to those in need,
The love I gave,
You turned to greed,"
Mary lay down,
Under a broken sky,
She unlocked her heart,
When he revealed the lie,
She said -- You tore the sky apart
Wore heaven's crown,
You made the clouds explode,
You brought the sun down,
You scattered stars,
to the galaxy wide,
A billion stars,
Now I'll watch them die,
"You tore the truth,
Stepped away from me,
With organized religion,
You poisoned the stream,
You profit from prophets,
Lie to those in need,
The love I gave,
You turned to greed,
So now I give you,
Your final release,
And in your place,
Everlasting peace."
