Lyrics
1st VERSE
His name was Johnny Williams, born in 1833
A southern man he worked his land he was both proud and free
His nation was divided, inside he felt an urge
So he joined the Grey and on that day he found himself at Gettysburg
CHORUS
Its true my great - great grandpa lost his life that summers day
A fight for what he thought was right between the Blue and Grey
And everything he fought for in that flag it can be found But that's all lost and all I hear is how,
They want to take the Stars and Bars down
2nd VERSE
They called him Aaron Thomas, his name he didn't own
A slave ship brought his father, his heritage unknown
In side he felt the stirrings, a yearning to be free
So he joined the Blue and marched into that same place in history
2nd CHORUS
Its true his great - great grandpa lost his life that summers day
A fight for what he knew was right between the Blue and Grey
And everything he fought against in that flag it can be found
But that's all lost and all I hear is how,
They won't take the Stars and Bars down
3rd VERSE
Now both sides have their stories, passed down through out the years
Heroic deeds of bravery with sweat and blood and tears
And if those great - great grandpas are looking down they'd say
We fought and died but can't you see you're still divided today
3rd CHORUS
Its true their great - great grandpas lost their life that summers day
A fight for what they thought was right between the Blue and Grey
A century and more has passed yet we havent come that far
I wonder if we'll ever heal the scar
Left behind by the Stars and the Bars
