    Story Behind the Song
This is a tale of how life can sometimes feel in a city.

I wrote this when I was living near Glasgow. I stayed at friend's house in the middle of a slightly scarey housing scheme. For some reason - and it was probably alcohol related - when I looked out the window, I thought of people living their lives in the rows of buildings in front of me, anaffecting and anaffected by the bright and vibrant city nearby.

    Lyrics
    Infertile lands we can decry
Parallel lines reach out to touch the sky

Formless clouds drift through the day
    Spiriting your hopeless dreams away

Trapped in boxes sometimes the try
To break free with a stubborn cry
Only to be blinded by the light
Tumbling back into the depths of night

Scenes from a window, paintings in the sun
Shining down to save the unhappy ones

See the city of light shine - bright so bright
A busy neon nightime, what a sight
Like a canopy of stars, so near but so far
The treasures of a lifetime, mine all mine
Like a scene from a dream, the part of a play
There is nothing we can do and nothing we can say
Just stay under the knife of the architects of life
