Story Behind the Song
This beautiful Entr'acte for violin solo and orchestra which appears at the end of Part II of Tchaikovsky's Ballet "The Sleeping Beauty" was originally accompanied by an orchestra of woodwinds and strings. It is not always played in performances of 'Sleeping Beauty' and in fact I first heard it in the New York City Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker" where it is used to accompany a change of scene in the first act. I was so taken with the work that I transcribed it for cello only to discover that was no piano reduction in print so I set to work on this (copyrighted) version which can be used by both violinists and cellists.
I wish to thank the three extraordinarily gifted pianists who helped me to edit and revise this arrangement: my sisters Freda and Ruth Locker, and Sara Davis Buechner.
