Op. 90 (D. 899), No. 2 (1827). Notes by Paul Badura-Skoda. Towards the end of his life, after he had composed numerous piano sonatas, Schubert turned to the genre of the short piano piece, and wrote two sets of impromptus. They are among his greatest masterpieces. The passionate virtuosity of the E flat major impromptu contrasts with the touching simplicity of the G flat major impromptu, an endless melody that could well have been entitled "The Song of Spirits Over the Waters". | MP3.com CD: The Rio Concert - buy it!
