With a track by Cave Precise, you pretty much can't lose when it comes to beats. But combining it with a talented emcee makes for a song of the ages. It Was War was released in January 2000 on vinyl and circulated around the nation on college radio stations and commercial mix shows. This song contains a lite jazz hook with flutes, for me- it paints a picture of the early American Revolution era. An overall well-composed song, It Was War touches on an important topic that urban youths today understands about the state of the union... |

Story Behind the Song
"I wrote this song during a frustrating period of my life. My relationship, my family, and the f*cked-up state of hip hop. People need to realize that we are in a war right now, everywhere. Minorities especially. I grew up in the Bronx as a Latino, so I know the deal when it comes to how minorities are treated by coporations, police, you name it. This song is for freedom fighters everywhere. I hope people will begin to open their eyes and see that we're not being treated like equals, no matter what they'll have you believing in the schools, in the office, in the news. The only way outta this is to educate to elevate and unify to sanctify."
Lyrics
(excerpts from the second verse)
I awoke from bad dreams of loading automatic magazines/battling marines and sipping liquor from canteens/armored tanks rolling over valleys and streams/and underwater, they surrounded the scene in submarines/
on impact, it seems bombs hit most hard/
but my thoughts launch and bombards the coast guard/hitting seven-mile radius by the yard/atheists rendezvous in mosque and synagogue/the war is on-- warn Fidel and Saddam/I'm from the city that never sleeps and never slept on/in the Bronx...
