Story Behind the Song
The music in this song came out of a jam session. George said "Play something in 5...", and the guitar part is what Andy came up with. George & Andy decided it would be perfect for the World On Tour project, so they laid down some basic tracks (one acoustic guitar and a darbukka) back in November of '99. Andy drove around with a cassette of this for months, getting the lyrics and arrangement together in his head. He was having some trouble with the chorus melody, so his wife Deanne helped develop that and came up with some lyrics for the second verse. After a few more sessions with George, polishing and brainstorming, the tune grew up :)
Lyrics
Why didn't I see it coming?
Why didn't I see the signs?
Why did I leave it so long?
Why did I let it go?
The light of day shines through the mirror,
Yet it's darkest night.
Am I reflection, am I flesh,
And which of us walks through the light?
Light, (will of the wheel) is it time for my last battle?
Light, (fire and steel) is it time to (time for the piper to play) say goodbye? (time to pay)
Light, (will of the wheel) am I (fire and steel) ready for this?
Light, (face the fear) can I see it through? (the time is near)
The light of day shines through the mirror,
Yet it's darkest night.
Am I reflection, am I flesh,
And which of us walks through the light?
Save the world, it's easy just face the evil from within,
Take it out, you've got it now, face it you're the one to give
Everything it's up to you, don't you see it?
Are you still fighting with your destiny,
Fighting with it, can't you see you're the one?
The light of day shines through the mirror,
Yet it's darkest night.
Am I reflection, am I flesh,
And which of us walks through the light?
The light of day shines through the mirror,
Yet it's darkest night.
Am I reflection, am I flesh,
And which of us walks through the light?
