    Story Behind the Song

Music was inspired by an obscure Joe Jackson Tune . Lyrics are autobiographical ( single and desperate in the 80's) . Recorded at Funky Bottom studios with vocal production by Wendell Williamson. Mixed with patience by Jeff Order at Order productions.

    Lyrics
    Fading

I was the man who would sell his soul
    His only real salvation
Give up his independence, peace of mind
    Just for some heartless confirmation

    Fading in and out again
    Fading in and out
I only see her now and then
    Fading in out

    I was the man
    Who would cut so easily
    at each failed flirtation

I was the man who would
    simply fall apart at each
    unanswered invitation

    fading in and out again
    fading in and out
I only see her now and then
    fading in out

    one night an empty apartment
left a note that said I miss you
    my love

    a phone call
she says we can't go any farther
    I said baby
    we haven't gone
    far enough
    it hasn't gone far enough
    we haven't gone far enough

    You know the girl
    she was perfection
    the girl was my confection

    and now our love it's
    all torn and tattered
for the first time I can say
    it really doesn't matter

    fading in and out again
    fading in and out
I only see her now and then
    fading in out

she's fading right in and out again

fading right in and out again

I only see her now and then
    ( I only see her )

    Fading in and out
