Story Behind the Song
The song was written quickly because the tune just popped into one guy's head. It sounded mysterious at first, and created a feeling of isolation. Due to this, the idea of writing a song about a guy who lost his girlfriend and was grief-stricken seemed appropriate.
Lyrics
(Verse 1)
To see you again, seems like my last time;
yet I'm wondering when, you'll leave him behind.
I know that we're through,
but I wish you knew,
about the hours that I spent,
thinking about you.
(Chorus)
My hopes for you I can't contain,
You turn away when I'm around,
Without a thought about my pain,
You know my heart is feeling down.
(Verse 2)
I'd sit and think why, I'm feeling this pain;
and then I would try, for you to explain.
and I realized then,
I can't be your friend,
because I want this distance,
to come to an end.
Chorus
(Bridge)
How could it have been that we used to get along?
The days of old when there; there was nothing wrong?
We were happy once, when I was with you;
but suddenly you became, very untrue.
(Instrumental, keychange)
(Verse 3)
But now that I see, your secret is untold;
I fortunately, moved out of the cold.
I've met someone that I know is very dear,
and with her loyalty, there's nothing to fear.
Chorus.
(Coda) You know my heart is feeling down.
