    Story Behind the Song
Derived from the Good Old Bad Old Days, hanging out with my high school friends down at the Harris Dragstrip on Saturday night up in the Catskills. Dedicated to Billy Gozza and Chris Goebels, those of us who "bought the farm."

    Lyrics
Back in the summer of '75- had a bigger reason for bein'alive
when class was over- head outa that school
Headed for the highway to break a few rules

    Didn't have a sweetheart- Didn't have a plan
no other way to prove that I was a man
Crazy teenager and I drove that way
how I lived to tell about it I can't say

'cause I couldt't wait to get behind that wheel
turn the key on that Oldsmobile
I'd always be the first one outa the gate
leave 'em breathin' the vapors from my Rocket 350 V-8

The crowd I was in with- we loved to go fast
get out on the drag strip on those Saturdays past
Even when a couple of us bought the farm
we still believed that our lives were charmed

'cause the chrome would flash, and the tires would scream
felt like part of the American Dream
I'd always get ahead, nobody'd make me wait
leave'em breathin' the vapors from my Rocket 350 V-8

The cars they have now- they just ain't the same
they all have funny sounding foriegn names
When you hit the gas, you don't hear that roar
Love to feel the rush, baby, just once more...
