    Story Behind the Song
November 22, 1950. I was due any day. My father stayed late to get everything done before taking off time around Thanksgiving so that he could be home for the birth of his third child. He took a different train that evening. A warning light was ignored and 79 families were forever changed. (The song says 77 - it was not until after I had written the song and did some more research that I discovered that the total was 79)

My father died 8 days before I was born. 42 years later I began dealing with the loss. This song is one of the results. It is a song for all the fallen ones.

We had recorded this song and Leslie asked if she could try something. We rolled the tape and let her have the mike. Out of nowhere she came up with the wails. Needless to say, I was worthless for the rest of the sesson.

    Lyrics
Forty some years ago last November
My father He died on a train
Eight days before I was born
Now I live on with his name

    Some fathers lose their lives
    in wars in foreign lands
Some take their lives by their own hands
Some to depression, some to Addiction,
    Some to stress
My father died on the Babylon Express

    One warning light was ignored
    One man, one mistake
    77 families forever changed
    from a twist of fate

Here's a song for all the Fathers
A song for the fallen ones
Here's a song for all the Daughters
And a song for all the sons
Here's a song for a twist of fate
And the havoc that it wrecks
Here's a song for all who died
    On the Babylon Express

Forty some years ago last November
My father he died on a train
Eight days before I was born
Now I live on with his name
