Story Behind the Song
My Uncle Johnny has a saying, "Yamala, ching a ling!" Nobody really knows what it means,
but it sounds like a cool thing...
Yamala was written while I was touring down in Alabama in 1999. It was one of those blessed moments where the entire song fell out of the pen completed in about 5 minutes!
Lyrics
I know Im a sinner, Lord, Im a son of a man
And Ive smoked mother nature and stole from Uncle Sam
From the thoughts in my head, to the things that I have done
To the city inside the moon, trippin with Uncle John
So Yamala, Ching-a-ling!
Ive live beneath the bridges
And in castles made of stone
And Ive walked through the gardens
Way down in East Babylon
Ive slept in your bed all day long
And Ive looked down on the night, flying high
Lord, Im scared of losing
But Im not afraid to die
So Yamala, Ching-a-ling!
Im not afraid to say, Im losing ground everyday
Sometimes Im weak in the knees
But how can I sleep through these crazy dreams?
When Im flying so close, so close to the trees
Yamala, Ching-a-ling!
