Story Behind the Song
It has been remarked this piece sounds like the rain falling through the branches of a windy Weeping Willow tree. The composer Schubert said "People like best what I have written in my greatest misery, " Well this was mine as I was in my most depressed state ever! Composed in a partly Romantic and modern style on the first day of autumn, I wrote it for the Weeping Willow tree which I consider to be the perfection of beauty and melancholy in nature. A classical pianist friend of mine performed it locally at one of her performances and three people came up to her after telling her how moved they were and who wrote that.
