    Story Behind the Song
Rob Schwebel sent me a 1st draft of the lyrics. I thought the topic was great, so I made a tune and did a 2nd draft on the lyrics.

It's a protest song, you know, 'Free Galileo!!' and like that. So it's a little late. Timing is not one of my strong points.

    Lyrics
Galileo - Rob Schwebel and Paul Henry

You saw the spinning stars, and thought they could stand still,
That the earth below was moving in an ever spinning wheel.
But as you spun the sky from darkness into light,
on the Earth below, the pendulum was swinging to the right.

    Galileo Galilei.
Did you know it then, how the weight would swing?
When you shouted out, nobody heard a thing, Galileo.

It swings and yet it moves,
and it's just a revelation, what that revolution proves.
But then, the Church declared: This Earth will never turn.
And they proved it when they showed you how a tired old man could burn.

    Galileo Galilei.
Did you feel it then, how the heat could sting?
Would you bend your knee? Would you kiss the ring, Galileo?

See the holy butchers pray as they burn the flesh.
Smoke and spirit rising, domine, they are blessed.
Who says mea culpa? Who will rise again?
Donna nobis pacem. Give us peace. Amen.

Turn the other cheek. Let them have their say.
Galileo, pray the pendulum will swing the other way.

    Galileo Galilei.
    You were burning with desire,
You were like a book upon the fire,
    Galileo.
