    Story Behind the Song
I have a very clear recollection of how this song came to me. I had been to Ullapool for a night out and had been dropped by fishing boat on the north shore of Scoraig peninsula at Achmore early the next morning. Sometimes a combination of sleep deprivation and alchohol can have very positive effects. It took me about ten minutes to compose the entire song while walking over the hill, three verses, chorus, bridge, the melody line and all the chords. The amazing thing was that the song was still there after I had slept.
The recording stands as a showcase for the guitar playing talents of Tom Salter, who studied under the Malian musician, Ali Farka Touré. At the time Tom had real problems playing in a song with more than 2 chords - he much prefered 1. So it was a real effort to get him to learn all the changes. But one afternoon at Ralphs I remember him listening over and over again to the skeleton track until he finally had it. It became hard to get him to stop. We recorded about 5 takes, none of them perfect but all with their own glitches and moments of brilliance.
I think this song is just about youthful optimism, tempered with a growing realisation that one can afford to wait.

    Lyrics
Well I ain't guilty of no crime and I ain't done no-one no harm
    I'm feeling good
And I'm walking down the street feeling easy on my feet
    And I wish you would

Take a chance on me baby, I won't do you no wrong
I can feel the time is right, this moment's swooping headlong
Baby is it understood, that I wish you would

I've been having such a time, still I can't shake you off my mind
    I wish I could
But I won't let it get me down, because I know you'll come around
    With some soul food

Take a chance on me baby, I won't do you no wrong
I can feel the time is right, this moment's swooping headlong
Baby is it understood, that I wish you would

Although the night is quiet still I can't sleep
Counting images of you when I should be counting sheep
Aah, aah don't tell me it's no good

There's a bird sweetly singing in the sky above my head
    I said hello birdy
And all my guilt besmattered past laid down its ugly head at last
    Making me feel wordy

Take a chance on me baby, I won't do you no wrong
I can feel the time is right, this moment's swooping headlong
Baby is it understood, that I wish you would
