    Story Behind the Song
This is a song about taking a stand against ambiguity. Simply put, it's a call to arms about skirting issues. Give me your hand was recorded in one whirlwind afternoon in my dorm room at Brown University during the winter of 1999.

    Lyrics
i guess i met you then
i told myself that it's all
in good time when i will say something
but i'm tired of wondering if
    and never finding out
if all the things i see can see you
    make me miss a beat
i think about the things i never do
    but always want to be
    i try my very best
with my heart upon my sleeve
and if you see the things i see

    let me take your hand
and take you for a walk
let me say the things i think
when i never seem to talk

    i'm always thinking through
until i find the thing to say
is it to late for you and me
    [give me your hand]
it seems you've left and gone
    and i'm here rambling on
can't you stay and say to me

    [it's all in your gaze]
    give me your hand and
[i want to have a part]
    look my way and
[the smile upon your face is what is tearing me apart]
try to tell me what you see
[i guess that we're here now]
    just take a chance
[you laugh at me and then]
    and speak your mind
[i show you it's my heart and you don't ever say a single thing]
for who knows what's what if you never say a single thing

    i'm looking in your eyes
looking for a sign that tells me
what that look should mean to me
but you keep it so locked up
    and shut away inside
and now i'm looking in my pockets
wondering if i'll find a key

i'm sorry for the things i said
i'm sorry for the things i did not say
the look upon my face should tell you everything inside
it's your turn and this thing's in your hands now

    it's all in your gaze
i want to have a part
the smile upon your face is what is tearing me apart
i guess that we're here now
you laugh at me and then
i show you it's my heart and you don't ever say a single thing

i guess i met you then
i told myself that it's all
in good time when i will say something
but i'm tired of wondering if
    and never finding out
if you will stay and say to me

    give me your hand and
    look my way and
try to tell me what you see
    just take a chance
    and speak your mind
for who knows what's what if you never say a single thing

    give me your hand and
    look my way and
try to tell me what you see
    just take a chance
    and speak your mind
for who knows what's what if you never say a single thing
