Story Behind the Song
This song grew from my perception of what Christ must have experienced during his agonizing hours in the Garden of Gethsemane prior to his arrest and crucifixion.
Lyrics
Refrain:
Dear Father, won't You hear My plea: that if it could be done, this cup may pass from Me!
Yet, it is not the will of Me, but Your will that must be fulfilled.
Verse:
Behold these who sleep. They are Yours, but so weak.
I pray for them now. Keep them safe, make them one.
Refrain:
O Father, won't You hear My plea: that if it could be done, this cup may pass from Me!
Yet, it is not the will of Me, but Your will that must be fulfilled.
Verse:
I have done all You asked: spread Your word, shown Your Self.
They're accepting it all; must I now pass through this?
Refrain:
My Father, won't You hear My plea: that if it could be done, this cup may pass from Me!
Yet, it is not the will of Me, but Your will that must be fulfilled, must be fulfilled.
