This is actually sort of a gospel R&B kind of tune, kind of a tribute to the time I spent as an artist on Atlantic Records (thank you Ahmet,) watching artists like Aretha record, and to my love of Van Morrison's music. Scott Page performs an absolutely astounding saxophone solo which is not to be missed. And the church girls headed up by Lauren Wood did an incredible job. Everyone paints such a bleak view of the future... I wondered what it might be like if we finally stopped squabbling, and learned to live together. Some dreams just won't die. Get onboard and rock on. |

Story Behind the Song
One Day
One day we'll look back
'cross the gulf of all these tears
And we will remember the good times
Let memory burnish the years
And maybe we'll laugh
At the storms that we passed on the way to this shore
And we won't believe that
Children went hungry and countries made war
Yes I believe it
I can feel it so deep in my bones
We will walk free
And hatred and greed will be buried in the long-ago
And maybe we'll laugh
At the storms that we passed on the way to this shore
And we won't believe that
Children went hungry and countries made war
For what will these things all be worth when the sun burns down
For the dust of my life here on earth to mean even a tiny amount
The love must remain when Heaven reclaims all the stars and the souls
Goin' home...
OUTRAGEOUS SAX SOLO
Yes one day we'll look back
Across the gulf of all these tears
And we will remember the good times
Let memory burnish the years
And maybe we'll laugh
At the storms that we passed on the way to this shore
And we won't believe that
Children went hungry and countries made war
And maybe we'll laugh
At the storms that we passed on the way to this shore
And we won't believe that
Children went hungry and countries made war

Lyrics
So many R&B songs are about well... the Blues. After all it's Rhythm and Blues. So that's understandable. But I wanted to do something a bit strange and also mix in a little gospel feel. Instead of a gloomy look at a Blade Runner-style future which so many of us take for granted is only going to get worse, this song takes a look at a future where the idea of wars, famine, and disease are so far behind us in the past that we can scarcely believe they ever once existed. In fact they have become the stuff of myth and legend at which we laugh unbelievingly. Maybe One Day.
