Story Behind the Song
The chorus woke up in my head one Saturday morning. Whenever that happens, I feel compelled to finish writing the song. No on in particular was the target of the message. It is merely an attempt to write an atheistic gospel song.
Lyrics
You better, you better change that road
'Cause the burden that you're carryin's too heavy of a load
You better, you better change that road
'Cause the path you're on's too rocky; so now that you've been told
You better, you better change that road
You've strayed my son, you've wandered and so it has been told
You better, you better change that road
You're friends they are a-beggin', you're family they scold
You better, you better change that road
We see destruction comin' and for your soul we fear
We hang our heads in sorry for you friend
We've preached to you and pleaded but still you will not hear
You blindly keep a-walkin' toward your end
You better, you better change that road
Because the place you're headin', its lonely and it's cold
You better, you better change that road
You're loved ones you abandoned, your precious things you sold
You better, you better change that road
On each side of you for miles, your demons sneer and goad
You better, you better change that road
In innocence is fading, your soul is growing cold
You better, you better change that road
We see destruction comin' and for your soul we fear
We hang our heads in sorry for you friend
We've preached to you and pleaded but still you will not hear
You blindly keep a-walkin' toward your end
You better, you better change that road
Cause the path you're on's too rocky; so now that you've been told
You better, you better change that road
You may not have much riches but your destiny you hold
You better, you better change that road
