Lyrics
THIRTEEN WEEKS
She takes a drink from her coffee cup.
Says "This stuff brings me luck.
I know its poison, but I dont really care anymore.
The lack of options has got me low.
Everything is just go, go, go.
I want to stop and take a look in the mirror."
Its the same old story, different song.
Shes been this way all along.
But she says Progress is progress
So what can I say?
And when she says she wants to be free
I know shes not thinking of me.
And when she feels shes had all her fun
She gives it up and she turns and runs away.
She talks about her dying life.
And says By now I should be somebodys wife.
I start to smile but she turns her head away.
She says I had a date with the Jack of Spades.
Hes a really nice guy until he gets laid.
And then he turns into some kind of child.
And when she says she wants to be free
I know shes not talking to me.
And when she thinks shes just about done.
She gives it up and she turns and runs away.
Weve known each other for sixteen years.
Weve slid on laughter, tears and fears.
And the older we get the less we do.
We try and try but we cant get through.
We were lovers then for too short a time.
For thirteen weeks she was mine.
But I cracked, she split,
And since then weve been friends.
Now we work our hours, collect our wage.
Watch our faces crack with age.
Our fantasies come in magazines -
Reality shows and steals the scene.
And everything just falls apart.
Pages tear and friends depart.
I can feel it coming, yeah, Im not far behind.
And when she says she wants to be free
I know shes not looking at me.
So when I think Ive had all my fun
Ill give it up and Ill turn and run away.
