Story Behind the Song
Please Note: I'm working on adding more tunes to my D.A.M. CD, and until then I am offering to mail a P.S.A. Compilation CD (18 songs!)for $3.00 to my CD buyers. Please email for details.
My first demo of this song, a 4 Track, was recorded w/ the help of John Simolike, a very talented young musician whose track provided some of the inspiration for Dino's eventual lead guitar work on the studio version. Recorded on 2" 24 Track.
Story song about a guy who loves his car (Olds, Delta '88) and hates his life and has the fortune/misfortune of picking up an eccentric Bible toting hitch hiker, "Crazy Harold".
Lyrics
Dear God
Sky was as blue as his mood was black
He said "I'll see ya soon", but he aint coming back
Gonna roll his 88 to the nearest bridge
Say one last prayer and then leap right in
He said, Dear God, whats it to ya?
Life is short, glory, hallelujah!
Picked a man up begging, begging for a ride
When you're suicidal good company's hard to find
He worried all morning who'd drive his Delta home
He couldn't bear the thought, of it left alone
He said, Dear God, whats it to ya?
Life is short, glory, hallelujah!
Crazy Harold says, "We're all coming together!"
Walks 50 miles a day, in all kinds of weather
Thumbing rides to nowhere, Bible in his hand
But its hard to laugh, to laugh at a happy man
Crazy Harold said, "Could I pray with you?"
While they sat in line, at the bridge toll booth
He prayed, Dear God, sure do love ya!
Life is good, glory, hallelujah
