    Reggae/Go-Go flavored dance music
Credits: Harry J. Coombs, executive producer; Issac Phillips, guitar; Craig White, engineer

    Story Behind the Song
This song was an experiment in blending two styles of dance music. Reggae and Go-Go. It was also a challenge to attempt to capture this type of groove without the luxury of a live band. With the exception of live trombone and guitar, the track is computer generated. Thanks to Mr. Harry Coombs, the song was recorded at Gamble and Huff Studios in Philadelphia and engineered by the wonderfully skilled Mr.Craig White, chief engineer there.

    Lyrics
    (With Caribbean accent)

    What I been tinkin bout
    A long long time
    Just how dat I could
    Make she mine
    But when I'm asking her
    For a dance
    Never will she givin' me
    Give me a chance

    And if I call her
    On de phone
    Her mudda she tellin me
    She not yet home
    So I ask de mudda
    Before she leave
I say would you give your daughter
    Dis message please (I say)

    Sha-na-na la-de-da
    Tell her I love her
    O-we-o let her know
    Dat I'm tinkin of her

    I ring the phone now
    Almost everyday
    Still de mudda she have
De very same ting to say
By now I know she tinkin
    I some kinda nut
    Doe I must still continue
    To press me luck

    But last night,
    Last night when I call
    No one answer
    De phone at all
    But radda a tape machine
    It begin to speak
It tellin' me leave a message please
    After de beep (I say)

    Sha-na-na la-de-da
    Tell her I love her
    O-we-o let her know
    Dat I'm tinkin of her

    (ad lib)
    Oh oh oh
    Shes so fine
    She blowin me mind
    Hay yay yay yay yay
    (I leave me message)

    Sha-na-na la-de-da
It means dat I love her
    O-we-o let her know
    I'm tinkin of her
    (I leave my message)
    (REPEAT CHORUS)
