A rockin', folksy, pop song with a wicked second line rhythm section and deeply soulful lyrics sung with an intense and unique passion. A song unlike any you've ever heard yet, oddly, comfortably familiar. This song is about overcoming the voices bent on breaking your will, on convincing you to quit and to throw away your very life. I've heard these voices and, "I won't ever let them take me down again!"

    Story Behind the Song
The first song I wrote after moving to LA, in '96. Its essentially about depression, which has plagued me most my life and I'm living proof it can be overcome. This was recorded with Dark Night Radio, out in the Valley, in the summer of 98 with the incredible Jake Jacobs on drums (he is this amazing session drummer who was totally gracious and cool and did a couple of sessions with us, because we never really got a regular drummer). Richard Davis laid in keyboards and did a little digital editing and mixed it on his Pro Tools rig in Burbank, He is also "The Man" and an amazing musician. Dave Blake is on Lead and Rhythm Guitar, and Jeff Wire is on Bass. I sang and played two or three Rhythm Guitar tracks.

    Lyrics
Sometimes I don't have a single thing I want to say.
I just want to stop and watch the clock tick time away.
I can see, as plain as day, the way out of the gloom,
I just can't seem to get my ass out of my room.

Sometimes I don't understand what's going on around me
but I've got my eye's wide open
and that brings me down, that brings me down.
I've been told that we have got no freedom.
You've got to turn to gold to make it go away
and that brings me down, that brings me down.

I can tell you everything that's happened on the news.
Days like this are days that I've come down with the blues.

I've been told that we are all just victims.
It's just a toll that we've got to pay
and that brings me down, that brings me down.

Somewhere someone waits for me to give in.
I won't ever let them take me down...

Sometimes I find that my body simply will not move.
Sometimes I say to myself, well what else would I do?
Sometimes I find that I just can't get out of my bed.
Sometimes I say to myself I was better off dead.

Sometimes I don't understand what's going on around me
but I've got my eye's wide open
and that brings me down, that brings me down.
I once thought my skin was tough as leather,
until I felt the earth beneath my feet shake,
but I'm still around, I'm still around.

Somewhere someone waits for me to give in.
I won't ever let them take me down, take me down again.
