Story Behind the Song
The song was inspired by a vision I had when finding a dying cat in the middle of the road one night, hearing its life departing, and somehow feeling akin to it.
Lyrics
Black Cat Blues (Gioconda)
I found a rope
What shall I catch?
Along the white line, in the middle of the road
A lasso to hunt up a match
I stumbled on a dying cat
Stretched out glistening, oily black
Torn down my side, I bend down
Hear the hum of life, soft departing cracks . . .
Chorus
Fall into you, fly into me
How can we be where we are?
Fly with you, feel with me
How come we are what we see?
Yearning, and pulling me over
Like a hair on a limb
I get a stiff reaction, dark night blood
Now that your chord's gone within
While the night chomps its bit
A silent nocturnal menopause
The doors are reluctant to give way
Conjuring ghosts from space-oozing walls
I found a rope
What was my fate?
Prowling new instinct, hatching new hopes
While unseen depth charges wake
I found a dying cat
Caught me by surprise
Hard times were coming, learning and burning
Haunting through bright diamond eyes
